Meet yourself where you are at. I am going to list 4 key components to creating a morning routine that will support your personal growth but if that overwhelms you, just begin with one of the components. Show up consistently for yourself in that one area and then as you become confident in accomplishing the first habit you can then add on the next. Remember this isn’t a race, focus on incremental growth that will push you forward!
SOME FORM OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Our bodies need movement on a daily basis and if you are like the majority of us who work at a desk or on your computer all day, you probably are not getting in the physical activity you need in a day. Although rest assured to all those who would not dare go into a local gym or lift weights, you can absolutely reap the benefits of getting physical activity in without heavy exercise. Some examples of this can include a morning walk, yoga, stretches, dancing, cycling, or even pilates. There is so many forms of physical activity you can do in the morning that you can actually enjoy! As long as you are intentionally moving your body in the morning you should be able reap some of the following benefits:
- Increased Alertness
- Better focus
- Better Mood
- Appetite control
- Blood glucose control
- Blood Pressure Management
- Improved sleep
GRATITUDE OR PRAYER
Beginning your day with gratitude or prayer if you prefer can have a significant increase in self awareness and joy. We have all had bad days but when you take the moment take recognition for all the good things you do experience in life, you allow more joy and peace to overflow into your life. Being intentional about expressing and taking note of gratitude in the morning can look different for many people, here are some examples:
- Writing in a Journal what you are grateful for
- Sitting outside in nature and taking in the beauty
- Reaching out to a friend, family or someone you met how you are grateful for them
- Meditation excercises
- Prayer or Worship
- Creating and listening to voice memos of moments of gratitude
- Creating or reminiscing on a vision board of all the things or moments that have brought you joy
PLANNING YOUR FOCUS FOR THE DAY
Most of us run off of a schedule or natural routine already, but this concept of planning your focus for the day is intended to be an intentional act. In your morning routine you want to determine what your focus will be for that day to be able to keep it in mind as you move throughout your day. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need a calendar or to do list, this can be as simple as deciding that today your focus is to make more connections with people. It doesn’t always have to be scheduling or productivity, just make sure however you set your focus for the day that that it aligns with what your goals are. We also recommend just choosing one focus or target that you intend to accomplish that day and determine what it will be at the beginning of your day within your morning routine.
GETTING INSPIRED
This is our favorite of all the components of a morning routine! Getting inspired every morning can build a sense of purpose and excitement in our lives which is so important for our well being as individuals. Getting inspired daily should be personalized to what make you feel inspired and motivated so you will want to explore what fits best for you. This can be taking the time to look at a vision board of your goals and dreams, listening to a podcast or watching a YouTube video of someone you admire or an inspirational speaker. You can even consider getting in a group of community every morning that makes you feel that jolt of energy and inspiration for the day. Explore the things that make your soul come to life and then set yourself up to feel that every morning before you start your day!
